Mdina, The Silent City:
The old capital of Malta is a typical medieval, walled city situated in the centre of the Island. Mdina is the seat of several noble houses, including the islands' oldest titled family - created barons in 1350. The "Silent City", as it is also known, commands magnificent vistas of the island.
The Museum of Natural History houses some historically important collections, with the reference collection holding over 10,000 rocks and minerals, over 3,500 birds, birds’ eggs and nests, 200 mammals, over 200 fish species, thousands of local and exotic shells and insects. The fossil collection is also noteworthy as it contains a number of large fish, numerous species of sea urchins and other marine fauna found embedded in limestone rocks.
The architectural crown of Mdina, the Cathedral Museum was originally a seminary and today serves as a significant religious museum. A small chapel exhibiting church vestments is situated on the second floor. It also boasts an impressive cross-section of sacred art, famous paintings, a coin collection, Roman antiquities and original documents from the time of the Inquisition. The museum also contains a particularly rich collection of music manuscripts and there is a superb collection of woodcuts by Albrecht Duhrer.

Mosta:
Built in 1860 over another church that was built in 1614, the church of St. Mary is the Parish church of Mosta. The interior of the church is quite impressive with its circular shape and clear interior. The awesome dome is the fourth largest in the world and famous due to the incident that took place during WWII – a bomb, which pierced the dome in 1942 landed on the church floor and slid across the floor without exploding! The church was crowded when the bomb hit and all were spared. The bomb is now on display in a small museum attached to the church.
